Follow-up Stories for Adopted ACD's

We got Potter from his foster dad, Steve, at the end of January, 2004. I had my first ACD, Miranda, for 10 years, and after getting married and "settling down", we decided to add another ACD to our brood. I found the Mid-Florida Rescue while doing a search online, and was thrilled to see descriptions of the dogs, their personalities, etc. Potter seemed like a natural choice for us. He's not super high energy (neither is Miranda, so I was used to that. Love the breed, but their excess energy doesn't really match our lifestyle), was really well-behaved from the get go, (took about 5 minutes to figure out the pet door) and also had some health issues it seemed I, as an acupuncturist/herbalist, could help him with. It seemed like it took Potter a few days to realize he was living with us, meaning, it was almost a week before he barked. He sat around the front door waiting for Steve to pick him up the first couple days (poor guy). I must admit, I was worried. Potter and Miranda spent a few weeks nosing around one another, almost fighting a few times, but not quite (thank God), until Miranda settled into the idea of another pup in the house. It's now been 2 months, and more of Potter's personality comes out every day. He's very playful with his humans, enjoys his walks immensely, sitting in the backyard soaking in the sun, and keeping our yard safe from I'm not sure what. He loves dinner time, and I'm pretty sure thinks he hit the jackpot getting humans who feed a BARF diet. (That and herbs are really helping his arthritic hips.) He's got a funny little personality, is very sweet, and doesn't talk back nearly as much as Miranda does. He's transitioning really well and is fitting in here just fine. He is really in love with my husband, I'm second in line, and I'd say he and Miranda tolerate one another pretty well. We really couldn't be happier with him, he's a gem.
